Sylvie, Product Manager and avid traveler, imagines our tours as she travels, with the eye of an enthusiast who knows the terrain and knows how to reveal the most beautiful experiences.

Behind his calm demeanor and great composure, Benoît Chaudron is at the helm of the island’s largest hotel complex, the Hôtel Club Marina Viva, while also managing a 4-star hotel in Ajaccio. Faced with challenges of all kinds, he responds with unwavering calm and remarkable efficiency.

His success is the result of the hospitality industry’s role as a social ladder. Having entered the field through the back door, he learned on the job, gaining hands-on experience that forged a solid foundation and a deeply human perspective on the profession. This authentic journey now enables him to inspire deep respect among his teams. A demanding and dedicated manager, he places trust, delegation, and skill development at the heart of his leadership style.

Every morning, true to his philosophy, he walks through the premises to personally greet every employee: housekeeping staff, pool technicians, and the food and beverage and front desk teams. For he knows that without them, this fabulous adventure would not exist.
A leader with an iron fist in a velvet glove. His high standards are guided by a single compass: the satisfaction of his guests. He understands that true luxury lies in ensuring that every visitor feels welcomed, valued, and perfectly cared for.

1. Your Career Path

  • What led you to a career in the hospitality industry?

My entry into the hospitality industry was entirely by chance. Trained as an educator and holding a lifeguard certification, I initially joined Marina Viva for just one season. That was the starting point of a gradual and passionate rise through the ranks. Starting as the entertainment manager, I decided to complement my hands-on experience with a bachelor’s degree in tourism through evening classes. This dual path, combining practical experience and theory, led me to the position of front desk manager, before I took over as general manager of Marina Viva in 2008, and then of the Campo dell’Oro hotel in 2018.

2. The Spirit of the Places

  • Marina Viva in Porticcio and the Campo Dell’Oro Hotel in Ajaccio: two establishments, two distinct identities. How would you describe the identity of each?

They are two complementary worlds. Marina Viva is a true leisure institution: a seasonal 3-star resort that buzzes with activity, boasting 1,500 beds, 1,000 dinner seats, and 200 employees. In contrast, the Campo Dell’Oro cultivates a more understated 4-star identity. Open year-round, it’s a sought-after retreat for business travelers, where calm, serenity, and a quiet, unhurried atmosphere reign.

  • What would you like every guest to remember after their stay at your hotels?

The image of a welcoming Corsica and magnificent natural surroundings. I want them to enjoy total relaxation just a stone’s throw from the Napoleonic city, with the satisfaction of excellent value for money.

3. The Art of Hospitality

  • What does a warm welcome mean to you?

It’s about immediately putting our guests in the best possible frame of mind so they can experience the best vacation of their lives. This starts with a sincere smile and genuine kindness from the very first moment. A warm welcome is creating that magical moment when the guest instantly slips into vacation mode, leaving their worries at the door.

  • What’s the detail that a guest almost never notices… but that makes all the difference in a hotel?

It’s the impeccable condition of our grounds. We tirelessly pick up every little item that might mar the landscape so that nothing is left lying around in the paths. This constant, almost invisible care reflects our deep respect for nature. Guests may not consciously notice it, but it’s this absolute tidiness that creates an immediate sense of harmony and well-being.

4. Management

  • How do you instill your values in your teams?

My management style is based on stability and growth. Whenever possible, I convert fixed-term contracts into permanent ones, because job security is the foundation of trust—both in oneself and in the company. I firmly believe in internal promotion: we systematically offer our employees opportunities to develop their skills. Seeing a housekeeper become an executive assistant is my greatest source of pride. That’s how we build committed and loyal teams.

  • What makes you most proud of your employees’ work?

My greatest source of pride is team cohesion. In our line of work, there are no “small” roles: we need everyone—from the front desk to the kitchens to housekeeping—to keep the whole operation running smoothly. Seeing an entire team come together to ensure a guest’s stay is a success reminds me every day that this adventure is, above all, a collective achievement.

5. A Way of Life

  • How do you explain the Corsican way of life to those discovering the island for the first time?

Originally from Touraine, I’ve rediscovered values here that are dear to me. The Corsican way of life is, above all, about a sense of sharing and togetherness. It’s that sincere desire to laugh together and cultivate an authentic sense of “living together.” Beyond the landscapes, it’s this human warmth that makes the experience on the island so unique.

  • Is there a particular time of day you especially enjoy at Marina Viva or Campo Dell’Oro?

At Marina Viva, it’s the daily visit to the pool. It’s the beating heart of the hotel, a space where people of all ages come together, and where activities are designed for everyone—regardless of age or ability. At Campo Dell’Oro, I particularly enjoy the restaurant overlooking the pool. It’s a place of pure togetherness where you can savor classic Corsican cuisine, enhanced by local ingredients.

  • What is the essential quality of a great hotelier?

It’s the ability to bring people together around meaningful goals. Today, we place environmental sustainability at the heart of our priorities. This is a commitment that is particularly close to my heart: we must act responsibly, for our children and for the preservation of the planet.
