Local inspiration and tips to enjoy à Propriano & Umgebung
Gulf of Propriano, from beaches to coves:
Propriano (Prupià) is a very pleasant town to stroll around. There are many beautiful beaches, such as Baracci, the wildest in the gulf. There's no sand here, only pebbles, and the waves can be quite rough. Plage Laurosu is 3.5 km long and offers splendid views from Porto Pollo to Campo Moro. Watch out for the swell! On this part of the west coast, treat yourself to a boat trip to the Senetosa lighthouse to observe the remarkable endemic flora and fauna.
Campomoro beach, dominated by its tower (the largest in Corsica): don't miss it, it's a real gem! The bay is home to a small fishing port in a soothing setting surrounded by idyllic coves. If you're bored of sitting on your towel, why not take a 3, 6 or 9-hour hike from the tower between sea and scrubland? At the end of the day, we recommend a visit to the tower to contemplate the soft sunlight on a 360° panorama.
Some of the magnificent beaches offer a wide range of water sports. Would you prefer to take a dip in a natural jacuzzi? Treat yourself to a canyoning trip.
Porto Pollo
Porto Pollo is a charming little seaside resort, lined with waterfront restaurants and bars. For those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Propriano and still enjoy the entertainment and sporting activities, this is the perfect place. We suggest renting a mountain bike at the port and exploring the historic remains of Filitosa, 10 km away. The astonishing menhir statues, which tell the story of 8,000 years of human history and boast the finest collection in Europe, are sure to thrill you! Pure wonder!
Tenutella Beach and much more...
Drive along the seafront to Campomoro and take a break at each beach. The 1 km-long Tenutella beach, which is little frequented even in high season, is perfect for children. Its neighbor, Plage du Taravo, is not short of space either, and is a delight for kite surfers.
In Olmeto, Scodi-Neri beach lies between two mountains. Here, you can enjoy a moment of peace and quiet on the white sand and deep blue water, go sailing or watch the fish hidden behind the rocks.
Tourism in the heart of Corsican villages
Let's take a tour of this region, far removed from mass tourism, where each town is unique and, above all, rich in history and know-how.
On the great Sartenais Valinco
Let's start with Petreto-Bicchisano: at the foot of Mount San Petru, which rises to an altitude of 1,400 m, near the remains of an ancient convent, the megalithic site of Settiva and the Genoese bridge of Abra, push open the door of the bakery and sample pastries based on ancient recipes! Then on to Sollacaro, where archaeological studies have provided evidence of human history dating back to the 7th millennium BC. A small village where Prosper Mérimée and Alexandre Dumas have stayed. On its promontory, Albarella overlooks the Gulf of Valinco and boasts a square tower that protected the inhabitants during the barbarian invasions. In Fozzano, follow in Colomba's footsteps as the old stone houses hold many secrets, and take the mare e mare sud hiking trail.
In Olmeto, you're in for a wellness break: relax at the Baracci thermal baths and enjoy the virtues of the 38° hot sulfurous water, reputed to treat rheumatism, skin problems and respiratory ailments. The small village of Granace is criss-crossed by the "Da Paesi à Paesi" network of footpaths. Accessible to all, they link the villages together, where you and your family can discover Corsica's heritage, passionate people, customs and activities as you cross the mountains, forests and scrubland.
