Organize your trip to Corsica: Practical advice from our experts

Children, boat, plane: all about transport

  • Check the identity papers (ID card or passport) of all passengers and babies. First and last names must correspond exactly to those on your ticket. In France, an identity card is valid for 5 years beyond the end of its 10-year validity, except for minors. Ladies, you travel with your married name, not your maiden name.
  • We advise you to check in on the airline's website with your file reference, then print out your boarding passes (mandatory with Volotea, EasyJet and Transavia).
  • If you are traveling with your pet, you must inform us of this at the time of booking, and be in possession of your pet's up-to-date vaccination booklet, which is required for boarding.
  • Babies benefit from a special allowance, which varies from airline to airline. On flights, this allows you to bring a baby seat or booster seat, as well as a stroller, into the hold.
  • If you have difficulty walking, you can ask us for free assistance (wheelchair).
  • If you have any medical specificities, don't forget to mention them at the time of booking and to bring with you the medical certificate corresponding to your pathology (breathing apparatus, insulin injections, etc.).
  • No matter which airline you travel with, we advise you to take your mask with you.

Your vacation accommodation

  • If you're traveling with a pet, it's essential that you specify this when you make your reservation. Some accommodations do not accept pets, and others charge for their presence.
  • If you want to travel lighter, don't hesitate to ask us about the possibility of obtaining a folding cot for your baby, which is generally subject to a charge.

How to prepare your car rental?

  • A credit or debit card must be presented in the name of the main driver designated at the time of booking. Failure to do so will result in refusal of the rental.
  • Depending on the car rental company, a young driver supplement may apply up to and including the age of 25.
  • If you do not return your car at the pick-up location, make sure that the drop-off charge is included in the advertised rate.
  • In an eco-responsible move, local rental companies are harmonizing their fleets of electric vehicles. Recharging stations are springing up in our parking lots and along certain roads. A map showing the location of these charging points will be included in your travel pack.

Journeys and driving in summer

  • In Corsica, we talk about journey times rather than kilometers.
  • With a network of 7,920 km, Corsica's roads are constantly being widened and asphalted. But there are still many narrow and potholed roads in remote areas, so drive slowly and take breaks to enjoy the scenery.
  • To avoid traffic jams, especially in July and August, avoid crossing towns between 10:00 and 13:00 and 18:00 and 20:00.

Preparing your program

Whether you stay long or short, time in Corsica always flies by. We advise you to plan your activities and visits in advance, so that you can enjoy the many facets of the Isle of Beauty: the Agriate Desert in a 4x4 with a guide, a boat trip to the cliffs of Bonifacio, a sea trip to the Scandola Reserve, an aperitif on the Iles Sanguinaires, the Corsican Museum, the fine sandy beaches of Porto-Vecchio, Genoese towers and hiking trails: we'll book them for you. Need some inspiration? Read all our articles: Corsica as a family, the Calanques de Piana, Cap Corse, southern Corsica, charming villages and the main towns that all tell a story.

Takeaway:

  • If you're coming to Corsica by ferry, take a seasickness medication or bracelet with you.
  • If you're planning to head off to the Restonica Gorges, for example, and then on to the glacial lakes, it's imperative that you bring your hiking boots, as sneakers won't suffice.
  • Biodegradable sun cream, mosquito repellent lotion or bracelet, CE-marked high-protectionsunglasses (category 4).
  • Remember to pack light: you'll need room to bring back typical products, including the excellent charcuterie and sublime cheese that you won't be able to transport in the cabin.

How to dress for Corsica?

For a road trip to Corsica or a staycation, it's advisable to travel light. However, the way you pack your suitcase will vary according to your activities. If you're more inclined towards activities like via ferrata and hiking, your equipment will be different from that needed for a high-end stay with outings to gourmet restaurants. In any case, even if temperatures in Corsica are generally mild, it's a good idea to bring warm clothing for cool evenings, mountain excursions or a trip to the sea.

Where to go for the first time in Corsica?

When you're planning your first trip to Corsica, whether for a long weekend or several weeks, at Corsicatours we're here to guide you before you leave. We can advise you on the best regions to visit according to your interests and the length of your stay. For a long weekend, we can suggest that you concentrate your stay on a specific region, such as Balagne, Cap Corse, or the South near Porto-Vecchio, to fully enjoy what each area has to offer. If you're planning a longer stay, we can help you put together an itinerary that covers a greater diversity of landscapes and activities, combining the coast and inland. Once in Corsica, we recommend visiting the local tourist offices for up-to-the-minute information and advice specific to the region. Don't forget that wild camping is forbidden in Corsica.

When not to go to Corsica?

It's advisable to avoid Corsica during the very high season, between July 15 and August 31, if you're looking to minimize costs and avoid the crowds. During this period, fares on transport services such as Corsica Linea, Air Corsica and others tend to rise due to high demand. What's more, if you like peace and quiet and less crowded beaches, this time of year may not be ideal for you. On the other hand, if you like the hustle and bustle of the city, sunbeds on the beach and restaurants open at all hours, it's best to avoid the first quarter of the year. During these months, some tourist areas can be less lively, and many establishments are closed. This is a quieter time of year, and may not be what you're looking for if you're looking for a lively, summery atmosphere.

What's the most beautiful part of Corsica?

Every corner of Corsica from north to south awakens wonder, but for a rendezvous with breathtaking natural heritage, head for the Calanques de Piana on the west coast. Here, rock formations sculpted by time rise majestically above the emerald waters, offering breathtaking panoramas.

To immerse yourself in the deep blue of the sea and discover the charm of authentic towns, Cap Corse, Balagne and the far south unfurl their treasures. These regions combine the wild beauty of the coastline with the cultural richness of picturesque villages,

Lovers of authentic flavors will be charmed by the eastern plain, a land of plenty where olive oil and goat's milk are produced with passion.

Finally, for a journey through the island's turbulent history, explore the cities of Ajaccio, Corte and Bastia. They tell the story of centuries of history, revolt and tradition, where every stone and alleyway seems to whisper the tales of Corsican ancestors.
