What's the climate like in Corsica?

Like all Mediterranean islands, Corsica has a Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. In Corsica, the climate is favorable during April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November. Temperatures peak in July and August. During these months, the weather is very hot. The coldest months are January, February and March. November and January are generally rainy. Between October and February, snow falls and often covers the mountain peaks well into the summer.

Corsica temperature in January

During the first month of the year, it rains about two weeks out of four, and humidity is over 80% in most towns. The average temperature is around 10°C and days are short, lasting less than 10 hours. In winter, it's very cold in the mornings and evenings, while in the middle of the day, temperatures can rise to 15°.

What's the temperature like in Corsica in February?

In February, the cold is less intense, rain is less abundant and days are longer, lasting up to 10 hours. Except in Bastia, where precipitation is still as heavy as in January. As in the previous month, temperatures do not exceed 15°C.

Corsica's temperature in March

Then, in March, the sun gradually makes an appearance and the climate becomes more pleasant. During this month, the maximum temperature is 15°C and the day lengthens as it approaches 12 hours. Clouds also begin to dissipate, covering only around 30% of the sky.

What's the temperature like in Corsica in April?

At last, the sun returns in April! The climate becomes warmer and days last longer than 13 hours. Beach outings can begin! It still rains, but this is offset by the rise in temperature, which generally tops out at 18°C.

What's the weather like in Corsica in May?

Note that weather conditions are quite similar in April and May. Except that in May, daylight is longer, rain is scarce and temperatures can rise to 22°C. From this period onwards, all towns are recommended as potential destinations for sunny vacations.

What's the weather like in Corsica in September?

On the other hand, September is when it starts raining again and becomes cooler. At the same time, nights become longer than days. Minimum and maximum temperatures for this month are 18°C and 26°C respectively.

What's the temperature like in Corsica in October?

In Ajaccio, temperatures rarely fall below 8°C, although the average is between 14°C and 29°C. Although Ajaccio holds the record for the highest rainfall at 171 mm, it is also the city where the sun shines most often.

In summer, the temperature can reach 28°C, and it can drop to 9°C in winter. In addition to Ajaccio, Bastia is also a good choice for winter vacations, especially in January when temperatures drop below 9°C.

Temperature and climate in Porto-Vecchio

In September, the only towns where the climate remains hot and dry are: Bonifacio, Propriano, Zonza, Figari and Porto-Vecchio. In fact, Porto-Vecchio is one of the warmest towns in Corsica, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 31°C.

Temperature and climate in Bonifacio

In winter, Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio are the least humid and the cold is more bearable. And the best time to go for a vacation in the sun is from May to October, when temperatures fluctuate between 20 and 30°C. For board sports, the far south is renowned for its strong winds.

In winter, it can be as cold as 10°C, while in warmer weather, it can be as hot as 28°C. After Ajaccio, Bastia and Calvi are the second wettest cities in Corsica, with 142 mm of precipitation.

Whatever the case, everyone has their own reasons for visiting Corsica. They can be mountain breaks or beach visits. For the former, aim for the colder periods from December to March. Alternatively, come from late spring to early autumn to enjoy the sunshine.
