The wild island of Pinarellu
Located in the Gulf of Pinarellu, the island of Pinarellu (in Corsican Ìsula di u Pinareddu) near Sainte Lucie de Porto-Vecchio is an uninhabited island, 60 m from the shore, and part of the coastal conservation area. A 19-hectare protected natural site, it is also known as l'Île des Corsaires or Isula di Corsi in Corsican. The island is home to a 13 m-high Genoese tower dating from the 16th century. It's the only square tower in southern Corsica, along with that of San Ciprianu a few kilometers away in the commune of Lecci. A magnificent 2-hour walk awaits you if you like walking!
Discover the archipelago of the Lavezzi Islands
An archipelago of 23 islands, the Lavezzi Islands are located just 10 kilometers southeast of Bonifacio, in Corse-du-Sud. Part of the Bouches de Bonifacio Nature Reserve, the archipelago is home to a remarkable array of flora and fauna, and offers a truly exotic setting. Its magnificent fine sand and pebble beaches welcome holidaymakers for swimming with magnificent fish (don't forget your masks and snorkels) and hiking trails.
Cavallo Island in the south
Cavallo Island, or Cavaddu in Corsican, is part of the Lavezzi Islands archipelago, whose turquoise waters are the stuff of postcards. Covering an area of 120 hectares, Cavallo is the largest island in the archipelago, and the only inhabited one. Located 2.3 km off the coast, to the east of Cap Sperone and the port of Piantarella, it is part of the commune of Bonifacio. The "island of billionaires", a veritable oasis in the Mediterranean, is reserved for a privileged few!
The beauty of Forana Island, near Porto-Vecchio
Located in Corse-du-Sud, near Porto-Vecchio, Forana Island, or isula Forana in Corsican, is an uninhabited islet forming part of the Cerbicale Islands Nature Reserve. Here you enter the marine mammal sanctuary. The fauna is mainly made up of numerous seabirds, but there is also a colony of bottlenose dolphins. Along with the islands of Piana, Maetro Maria and Pietricaggiosa, this is one of the main islands of the Cerbicale archipelago, with its magnificent seabed.
Gargalu Island, a must-see
The island of Gargalo is part of the Scandola nature reserve in western Corsica. With its lighthouse at the tip and its remarkable Genoese tower, once used to communicate with the fortress of Girolata, the site is of great scenic interest. It is also home to the last remaining pairs of osprey.
Mezzu Mare island, near Ajaccio
The main island of the Sanguinaires, 12 km from Ajaccio, Mezzu Mare boasts a rich architectural heritage, including a square tower (1550), a disarmed semaphore (1865), the remains of a Lazaret (1807), the famous lighthouse (1845) from Alphonse Daudet's "Contes du Lundi" and, at the tip of the Pointe de la Parata, a Tour Génoise (1608). The lighthouse rises to an altitude of 80 metres.
It's also a paradise for seabirds and dolphins. The archipelago of the Sanguinaires Islands, home to 150 rare plants, is classified as a "Grand Site de France". The archipelago comprises 4 small rocky islands of volcanic origin. Don't hesitate to take a boat trip to these wild red rocks for an exceptional sunset.
The Finocchiarola islands, to the north
Finochju" means fennel in Corsican. A species of wild fennel still grows on the islets of Cap Corse. These 3 islets are refuges for seabirds, including the endemic Audouin's gull. To protect these species, access is strictly forbidden.
