Braderie, vide grenier and brocante corses
Flea markets and second-hand markets are very popular in France, especially in summer and before Christmas. And Corsica is no exception! Some people even make a hobby of it, spending their weekends and vacations visiting flea markets and various second-hand markets.
In Corsica, you can also find various second-hand markets throughout the week and even during the national holiday: an opportunity to go bargain hunting at a brocante, a braderie, take part in a vide grenier or spend the afternoon at a flea market.
Second-hand stores are also very popular in Corsica. You'll find them in the form of large warehouses or small second-hand stores in every field, every day of the week, from depot sales to barter.
Going to a flea market gives you the chance to unearth some truly wonderful or unusual items that you simply won't see in the stores. For a bite to eat, head to one of the tents offering hamburgers or hot dogs and fries - more often regional specialties - but the cheerful atmosphere makes up for the lack of gourmet fare!

Braderies des commerçants corses: better than sales!
To find a braderie, you can ask at the local tourist office, or simply wander around town looking for the signs put up by the organizers - "brocante dimanche ....." is the type of sign you'll find. You don't need much more information, as brocantes are usually held in the morning, but can extend into the evening in some towns, and these details will appear on the signs. As with all markets and fairs, the best antiques take priority when professionals are present. Bargains to please yourself and others.
And every year, usually in summer and before the start of the new school year, a number of retail groups organize their annual braderie and night-shopping events:
- La Braderie des Commerçants de Porto-Vecchio - a much-anticipated annual event taking place over a few days at the end of August.
- Braderie des commerçants in Calvi : 3 days at the end of August.
- Les Nocturnes in Bastia : every Friday in August until the end of August.
- Night shopping in Ghisonaccia: Every Friday from July 5 to August 30.
These local events often take place in a festive atmosphere, with a variety of activities for young and old. It's also a great opportunity to prepare for the new school year at your vacation destination!
