La Tonnara, a dream beach during your vacations in Corsica

Corsica is the ideal region for vacations in the sun. It's best known for its heavenly beaches. La Rondinara, Palombaggia, Santa Giulia and Cala Rossa are all well worth a visit, but there's another Corsican beach that's often overlooked by tourists, but well worth a detour. La Tonnara is pure, wild and peaceful. During the high season, if you're looking for a peaceful break away from the crowds of tourists from all over the world, La Tonnara beach is the place for you. Fine sand, turquoise sea and breathtaking views of the neighbouring islands await you.
Access to the former fishing port, now the perfect holiday resort
For the record, La Tonnara was oncea tiny fishing village specializing in tuna fishing. This also explains its name, as the locals used fishing nets bearing the name Tonnara to catch big fish such as bluefin tuna and swordfish. Today, the village is renowned for its sandy, rocky beach, sober, discreet, intimate and authentic.
If you're wondering where to find this little corner of paradise, it's in the southern Gulf of Ventilègne, 10 km west of Bonifacio. To get there, take the N196 main road from Bonifacio towards Ajaccio, then turn left onto the D358, which will take you there without a hitch. Along the way, you'll see signs pointing the way to beach restaurants.
When to go to La Tonnara beach near Bonifacio?
Corsica has always been a popular summer vacation destination, and in the high season the most beautiful beaches become overcrowded. This is much less of a problem in and around a Tonnara. Even in July and August, the area remains quiet and uncrowded. Enjoy a pleasant summer swim at 25°C in crystal-clear water! The sun only accentuates the splendor of the scenery, while the gentle breeze from the Mediterranean Sea lulls and refreshes you.

Quad biking, kayaking and windsurfing are other activities available to tourists.
Our opinion of Chez Marco and Le Goéland
Don't forget to sample the succulent specialties of the restaurants on the beach. They offer typical Corsican dishes based on freshly caught fish and seafood. The setting is magical, and with your feet in the sand you can enjoy a house cocktail while you wait for the sun to set! At Chez Marco, enjoy grilled lobster, fish soup and creamy risotto.

The Tonnara islands at sunset
La Tonnara beach is bordered by two small islands bearing the same name. They are considered natural areas of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest. The two islets are completely rocky and uninhabited. But you can go there to see the seabirds. The archipelago is part of the Bouches de Bonifacio nature reserve . It's the perfect place to try your hand at diving, or simply to discover the richness of the sea with a mask and snorkel. Children love to go to these islands, but as they are surrounded by submerged rocks, it is strongly advised to keep a close eye on them. The site and its beach form a splendid setting that poses no risk to either your safety or your health, but an umbrella is advisable as there are very few shady spots. On the other hand, if you like waves, avoid venturing near the islets that lie close to the shore. Your surfboard fins could be seriously damaged by the submerged rocks.
