On your travels: Discover Corsica differently
Our favorites for nature lovers:
- In Cap Corse, set off in the cool of the evening to reach an exceptional cove, a haven of peace only accessible by sea in a kayak.
- In the far south, take an 8 to 16-seater catamaran for a 1/2-day trip to the Lavezzi Islands, where you can swim among shoals of black-headed sar, then sail along Bonifacio, one of Corsica's most beautiful towns.
- Rendezvous at the port of Cargèse for a boat trip with a professional snorkeler, passionate about aquatic flora and fauna.
- Discover a passion that can be shared by all ages: scuba diving. Our tip: try scuba diving on the Revellata peninsula in Calvi, a privileged spot where devil rays fly through caves, tunnels and canyons 15 meters below the surface.
- Hire a small boat to visit the Scandola nature reserve Unesco World Heritage Site, or from the Porto-Vecchio marina for lunch at a chic straw hut in Palombaggia.
What to do in summer: must-do mountain activities
This year, choose a hotel or rental for a vacation in the mountains !
In July, it's warm enough to head off into the mountains without heavy equipment, but always check the weather forecast, and in any case, bring warm clothing if you're heading for the Corsican mountains or lakes. A hike to Lake Melo in the Restonica Valley will give you a feeling of plenitude, and if you climb to the second lake, Capitello, look up and see this exceptional site! If you've got children, you'll be better off at Lac de Creno, surrounded by conifers and water lilies in the shade, accessible after a good hour's walk.
In Corsica, a multitude of signposted trails allow you to get lost everywhere without getting lost anywhere. In the mid-mountain region of Zonza, for example, you'll find a few that all lead to a little corner of paradise. Before arriving at the Col de Vergio, an easy path takes you to the sheepfolds and then to the Radule waterfalls(4 km loop). You can also follow the famous transhumance trails, with their many steps and low stone walls.
What about a donkey or horse ride along the west coast or to the Aiguilles de Bavella?
Corsica is the Mediterranean's richest island in terms of waterways, with 80 torrents and rivers to choose from - a real treat for white-water sports enthusiasts! Canyoning, kayaking and rafting will refresh you and give you plenty of thrills.
Cycling enthusiasts will also be delighted: on a bike to conquer the uphill curves, on a mountain bike to discover the forest trails, or on a VAE for a pleasant ride.
Motorized sports are not to be outdone: take a quad for a ride or a hike with a professional who will take you to the heart of small mountain villages and their sheepfolds.
Our tip: take a 4x4 excursion to discover the Asco Valley in Haute-Corse, part of Corsica's Regional Nature Park, and discover many unusual spots!
