A quick reminder for novices: windsurfing involves steering the sail in relation to the wind (the sail is hinged to the mast), while remaining balanced, whereas in kite surfing, the sail is separated from the board and held by a harness with which the surfer is equipped. These 2 board sports can be dangerous, and require special training.
Where can I go windsurfing in Corsica?
All over the island
Throughout Corsica, you'll find a large number of clubs and nautical centers where you can practice windsurfing in complete safety. In an exceptional setting, they offer windsurf rentals for independent outings, group courses for gentle progression and private lessons for rapid progress.
The windiest spots are located in the extreme south of the island, in the strait between Corsica and Sardinia. Here, Figari, La Tonnara, Piantarella and Santa Manza benefit from a wide variety of orientations, so that there's something for everyone in almost every weather condition. The region is regularly windy in summer, and it's possible to sail 1 day out of 2 or 1 day out of 3. At the Piantarella spot, the beach is dominated by the famous 18-hole Golf de Sperone, making it a superb windsurfing spot against a backdrop of sandbanksand turquoise sea.
For windsurfing in the north, head for Balagne, between Calvi and St Florent. This region gets plenty of wind, but not as much as southern Corsica. A windsurfing holiday in Corsica with daily lessons will enable you to acquire a good level and get to know an efficient and welcoming team.

Corsica has a good network of sailing schools, notably in the Calvi and Ile Rousse basins for the Balagne region, and in Ajaccio, Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio for the south of the island.

Our tips and map
A windsurf board weighs around 6 kgs... you can bring your own or rent one on site. Inflatable boards are also available, taking up less space and weighing less, so you can easily slip them into a backpack.
And don't forget that on the water, cold and humidity are your worst enemies. There are different types of neoprene wetsuit (full-body, short-sleeved, or separate top and shorts) in different thicknesses, but the shorty is the most commonly used, as it protects the torso and genitals while enjoying the sun on the skin. Choosing a neoprene wetsuit also offers protection against cold water. Elastic, it allows a wide range of movement and is comfortable to wear. Lycra tops, windproof and waterproof jackets are also recommended, depending on the season. Don't forget polarized sunglasses to avoid eye strain caused by the sun's rays on the water.
Don't forget to check theeather conditions before you head out to sea, and find out about the spots before you set off.
Finally, in the event of a problem offshore, take along light tubes (Cyalume tubes) to make it easier for rescue teams to locate you.
