Kayaking in Corsica

Itinerary: our seaside spots

To the west of Corsica, the Gulf of Porto awaits you. Try it at sunset, it will be a moment engraved in your memory. In Bonifacio, you'll feel very small at the foot of the great limestone cliffs. Our favorite is a sea kayak trip to Erbalunga to discover the Cap Corse marine park. You'll be able to make the most of the little secrets of the rental area, accessing coves where you'll be alone in the world. In Ajaccio, near the Sanguinaires islands, you'll have the chance to sail in a turquoise sea that will dazzle you. You can also take a tour of the renowned Scandola reserve, infiltrating natural caves. You might even spot groupers and lobsters as you dive. Last but not least (and there are plenty more to come), we'd like to mention the St Florent route to dream beaches like Ghignu, Saleccia and Lotu. You'll be dreaming with your eyes open!

For sea kayakers, there are a multitude of paddling possibilities. This activity is a real pleasure to spend with a group of friends in a natural environment. What could be better than spending some quality time on a gentle, luminescent sea in a peaceful atmosphere?

As kayaking is a group activity, it naturally offers a convivial atmosphere of incomparable calm. You can even consider interspersing the activity with short hikes to discover the many natural and cultural treasures to be found in each location, such as coastal paths.

River trips in South Corsica and Haute-Corse

From spring onwards, Corsica attracts enthusiasts from all over Europe. It's an excellent way to discover exceptional sites, some of which are little-known to Corsicans. Here are a few interesting rivers to discover on the Isle of Beauty during vacation periods or just for relaxing moments:

  • Solenzara : This is a river formed by the Fiumiceddu, Pulischeddu, Vacca and Purcaraccia. It boasts beautiful natural pools and fascinating waterfalls that flow into Haute-Corse and pass through southern Corsica. Ideal for kayaking, it flows directly into the Tyrrhenian Sea between Aléria and Porto-Vecchio. Solenzara boasts magnificent vegetation and beautiful sun-drenched mountains to perfect your hikes.
  • Polischellu : This magnificent river is located between the Col de Larone and the Col de Bavella in the Bavella massif. It is ranked as one of the most beautiful rivers, attracting the interest of nature lovers and active vacation enthusiasts alike. It is very popular during the high season, despite its difficult access.
  • Baracci: It's a beautiful, welcoming place with plenty of opportunities for adventure. In other words, Baracci is ideal for water sports enthusiasts, whether climbing, waterfalls, kayaking or even diving.
  • Figarella: Just a few kilometers from Calvi, in the heart of the Bonifato forest. It's full of beautiful, shallow natural pools that are perfect for children. It's ideal for swimming or kayaking. Everyone is free to do what they like in complete serenity: from a simple dip to a dive.
  • Luvana: This river runs through the village of Chisa. It is surrounded by gentle beaches. It offers a wide range of water activities. It's a dream spot for extreme water sports enthusiasts.

Canoeing and kayaking: an activity for everyone

These activities can be enjoyed at any time of year. In high season and out of season. It's even a good idea to go off-season, i.e. between April and June, or November and December. These periods see a drop in temperature, so it's neither too cold nor too hot. If you have the choice, come out of season to practice this activity and reconnect with nature, an effective remedy for the stresses of everyday life. For beginners, a mini-training course is provided before you set off, and in any case, as with all sea sports, it's advisable to go out in a group. Even the most experienced abide by this rule.

Where can you go kayaking in Corsica?

Corsica abounds in idyllic spots for thirst-quenching swims and kayaking or canoeing, whether gliding over turquoise waters or hurtling down a river.

For a real experience , and if you're in good physical condition, we suggest a week's kayaking, with nights in bivouacs under the stars. You'll also be able to snorkel with an abundance of aquatic fauna (groupers, sars, scorpion fish...) under the supervision of a professional guide. How about a week of total disconnection and bliss?

What to bring: sunglasses, bike gloves, waterproof bag, airtight plastic box, tracksuit for the evenings.

Corsica is the perfect place to enjoy a wide range of activities at any time of year: hiking, kayaking, diving, canyoning and unforgettable moments of relaxation in high season or off-season. Corsicatours offers you a host of great deals. For tailor-made adventures with friends or family at any time of year, we offer a wide choice of accommodation in the most beautiful locations at unbeatable prices.

Canoe or kayak?

Canoeing and kayaking are often referred to indiscriminately, although the difference between the two is significant. In a canoe, the paddler is on his knees with his legs bent backwards, overlooking the water. He uses a single paddle on the right or left side of the boat. In a kayak, you sit on a seat with your legs stretched forward, held in place by a footrest. The paddler is positioned lower than in a canoe, in relation to the water level. He moves forward with a double paddle (a "blade" on each side).
